Adventure Kids Birthday Cakes

Adventure cakes are a bit of a misnomer because they are not made with cake at all and there is no baking involved. Instead a cardboard box frame is decorated with interesting treats, like animal biscuits, wafers, smarties and anything else that takes your fancy. This sort of "cake" makes an interesting alternative to the normal types of kids birthday cakes that most people make. And children love them.

The size of the box you choose to use will depend on what you are going to make. But just about any clean box may be used including ice cream cartons, shoe boxes and even wine boxes.

How to make Adventure Kids Birthday Cakes

The first step is to find a box or boxes that you can use to create the required shape. You may need to cut, stick and even staple to get the shape you want. Then cover the entire framework with aluminium foil.

To make royal icing

You will need one egg white, have a look at, Radio Controlled Wheelies three drops of lemon juice, 175 g icing sugar that must be sifted, and colouring and flavouring if you wish. Increase the quantity according to the size of your box.

First mix the egg white checkout, Cinnamon Oil and lemon juice in a small bowl. Add the sifted icing sugar spoonful by spoonful and then mix until the icing holds its shape. If you are going to be using colouring and/or flavouring add this last.

Place the royal icing in a sealed container until you are ready to use it because it has a tendency to dry out. And then it won't be any good for kids birthday cakes.
