An Intro To Geofiction: What Is It?

Lately, the hobby known as geofiction has become quite popular - although the art has been around for centuries. The funny thing is, while most people are familiar with the applications of geofiction, many - even those in the hobby community - are not familiar with the term at all.

This is a shame, because geofiction is one of the most interesting and engrossing hobbies out there. This article will explain what geofiction is and give you a brief overview of what we're talking about when we discuss this hobby.

Geofiction: A Hobbyist's Universe

Geofiction literally means a created or invented work involving geography. In other words, it is a hobby that focuses on creating entire worlds out of one's imagination. When I say worlds, I mean places, , Japanese Robot Toys people, cultures, languages, and even entire universes.

This process is very similar to worldbuilding, which involves the creation of worlds complete with various physical and cultural characteristics. The key difference is that worldbuilding is usually the term people use when they are referring to creating a universe as a part of a backstory for a novel, role-playing game, movie, or other created work. Geofiction, on the other hand, is the term we use to denote the hobby itself.

What Geofiction Entails

Hobbyists who partake in geofiction - and are known usually as geofictioners - start with a general concept of the world they wish to create. Will it have people? What will they look like, think like, talk like, and be like? What kind of world or worlds exist in this universe? What is the political environment?
