Robots in Science Fiction
Robots have a long history in science fiction. The first sci-fi robot appeared in Karel Capek's sci-fi play Rossum's Universal Robots (R.U.R.) in 1921. This play focused on nothing more than showing that 'Man build Robots and eventually is destroyed by those robots'. The term 'Robot' in sci-fi gained its popularity only after this play.

Also the term robot in science fiction includes anything acting as a mechanical artificial agent. 'Android' in sci-fi represents artificial men. Similarly 'Gynoids' represents artificial women and 'Cyborgs' artificial humans with significant mechanical enhancements. Sci-fi robots can be categorized on the basis of four different features:

- Plausibly: This means how much possible it is to build a similar device on the basis of existing technology.

- Dangerous: How dangerous the robot is for its enemies.

- Coolness: This includes the appearance, also see, Collectible Pocket Watches design also see, Collectible Telephones and looks of the robot.

- Comedy: Is robot able to provide some kind of a humor in the film, play or book in which it appears.

Some of the most famous science fictional works featuring robots are listed below. It includes plays, books, radio series and movies also.

- The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: It started as a radio series on BBC. Due to its great success it has ever since being published as books, television series, stage shows, and 2 computer games. It is one of the funniest plays ever. Every line, every word reflects the perfection and hard work behind it. The book is part of 5 part trilogy play.

- I Robot: It is collection of nine sci-fi robot related short stories written by Isaac Asimov. The story starts from the initial development of robots and ends 100 years after in time when robots are so powerful that they control human beings.

- Rendezvous with Rama: Written by Arthur C. Clarke, this book won the Hugo and the Nebula awards.

- Gateway: This book has been written by author Frederik Pohl. The novel is about a space craft consider, Curio Display Cases left by long gone generation of aliens. The book has won both Hugo and the Nebula awards.

- Star Wars (1977): The first Star War movie made in 1977 gave silver screen one of the most famous robot duo ever, R2 & C3PO.

- Robocop: The punch line of this movie was: Part man, Part machine, All cop. The movie showed how a human turns into a robot to solve crimes in Detroit area.

- HAL: Made by Stanley Kubrick in 2001, this movie shows a computer named HAL as a murderer. This computer is shown as the pinnacle of computer processing. Whereas the other computer in the movie, Roadrunner, is shown as the fastest computer in the world.

- RUN: Box-Logan's Run shows a large robot who turns out to be insane. When the robots earlier job of processing food consider, RC Gas Boat ends because of end of food try, Radio Controlled Boats delivery system, the robot decides to freeze the sanctuary seekers.

- The Terminator: The movie shows Terminator's mission of killing Sarah Connor whose future son leads a resistance against machines. A human, kyle Resse, is also sent from the future to protect this little boy. The movie also had some elements of drama in it.

- A-I Robots: This classic from Steven Spielberg and filmmaker Stanley Kubrick features have a look at, Flying Robots tons of robots.

The list of science fictional work featuring robots is never ending. As humans learned more about robotics and computing the robots also evolved from just a mechanical device to human looking androids.
