How to draw fast and well!
Drawing speed can be very useful if you are working on a serious of projects or working in a 'live environment' with a model. Many artists spend a great deal of time and patience working methodically on a picture, carefully drawing each line with a great deal of commitment. Individually, the artists drawing speed can be greatly improved without losing a great deal of accuracy , if any and in fact, fine tuning the overall drawing speed can even enhance the picture because the artist becomes more intuitive.
Improving your drawing speed only takes time and practice but if you can retain your accuracy it is going to greatly improve overall production, meaning that as an artist you can take on more commissions and yet have the confidence to be able to deliver.
In order to achieve this, you need to set aside some time for some drawing speed exercises which are fun to do and you can make it a serious project or as a competitive venture between friends and family. try, RC Sig Models
Consider some drawing subjects and once you have your list (see below) set your timer for 3 minutes per subject:
- Tortoise

- Horse
- Tree
- Brick wall
Once you have completed your set. Take a few moments to see how the exercise has affected your drawing speed and if it has impacted your accuracy. If it hasn?t had any impact, try the exercise again, but this time, reduce it by a minute each.
This drawing exercise works well because it enables you to become very confident and intuitive to your picture and it also enables you to pinpoint the main characteristics of each item.
Create your own list of subjects and choose those which would be inspiring to you as this will help.
